Across a number of the developments we manage, we’ve recently rolled out Estates in Bloom - a simple but impactful initiative focused on improving shared spaces on Preim managed estates through seasonal planting.
The starting point was straightforward. Some of the soft landscaping areas on certain estates were looking a bit flat after the Winter months, so, we focused on introducing spring bulbs - including daffodils and tulips - into the common outside areas where residents would enjoy them the most.
Rather than deciding this centrally, we worked closely with residents, Resident Directors and Steering Groups to shape the planting plans. This meant we could prioritise the spaces that matter most locally and make sure the results felt curated to each development.
From there, it became a genuinely collaborative effort. Estate teams worked alongside our grounds maintenance contractors, with additional support brought in where needed to deliver the planting across multiple estates. We also contributed towards the cost of the bulbs to help bring the wider vision to life.
As Abigail Morton, one of our Estate Managers, explains:
“It’s been great to deliver this as a joint project with our residents. We’ve now added colour and some beautiful flowers to enhance the great outdoor spaces within the estates we manage.”
Like any project of this scale, there were a few challenges along the way! Weather conditions had an impact in some areas, with colder snaps affecting early flowering – but overall, the results have been really positive.
The difference is already visible. Outside spaces across the developments involved now have a clear seasonal lift, and feedback from residents has been really encouraging, with many commenting on how much more inviting these areas feel.
Estates in Bloom is a great example of how relatively simple, well-managed improvements can enhance the look and feel of a development, while also building stronger engagement with residents.
